Lufkin - Motorists can expect southbound lane closures at the south SL 287 interchange as concrete traffic barrier replacement work continues next week on US 59.

Beginning Monday, June 17, crews will start night work to pour the center median concrete barrier located between Whitehouse Drive and SL 287. The barrier divides the southbound main lanes of US 59 South and the northbound main lanes. This means the southbound direct connector from SL 287 to US 59 South will be closed nightly throughout the week. B&E Construction, of Hallsville, TX, will oversee construction and work is expected to be completed within a week, weather permitting. Crews recently completed the concrete barrier replacement dividing the northbound lanes.

Message boards, cones and barrels are being set to alert motorists to the work. Motorists are urged to be cautious, alert and respect the designatted work zone areas. Delays should be expected during peak travel hours. For more information on road conditions and closures statewide, visit
