MIDLAND – Work to improve the intersection of Wadley Avenue and A Street in Midland is scheduled to start the week of Sept. 9.
The project includes widening the intersection, improving drainage, and making improvements to the traffic signals. Work will be done with the intention of maintaining access to all properties as much as possible. The project will be done in several phases in order to minimize the disruption to traffic.
Various lane closures will be necessary throughout the life of the project. For the first phase, traffic on Wadley will be pushed to the south side of the road. This will facilitate construction of a third westbound lane through the intersection. The next phases will include adding two “free right turn” bays for A Street traffic to enter Wadley.
Temporary traffic signals will be in operation for much of the project. It is imperative that motorists stay alert and watch for the temporary traffic signals. They will be moved around at different phases of the project.
This is a City of Midland project. TxDOT is overseeing the project because it is federally funded.
Motorists are reminded that state law requires them to obey warning signs as well as any flaggers encountered in the construction zone. Motorists are also asked to slow down in the construction zone.
Reece Albert Inc. of Midland won the project with a low bid of $1,801,684. The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2020, weather permitting.
