ODESSA – Repair work on two Interstate 20 overpasses that have had lane closures for several months is scheduled to begin the week of Nov. 6, 2017, weather permitting. The repairs will be made to West Loop 250 in Midland and Crane Avenue in Odessa.
While work will be happening in both locations, West Loop 250 is the priority because of the higher traffic volumes. There will be times, however, when workers aren’t present on West Loop 250. Before work can begin there, a crossover has to be built on the I-20 median. There will also be stages where concrete has to cure out and work will seem to stall for short periods of time.
I-20 traffic patterns will be severely altered at West Loop 250. Lanes will be closed in each direction while the crossover is built in the median. Once the crossover is put in use, there will be two-way traffic on the westbound lanes of I-20. The eastbound lanes will be closed for repair work to be done.
A crossover is also needed for repairs at Crane Avenue. Like West Loop 250, lanes will have to be closed for the crossover to be built. The damage to that bridge is over the westbound lanes, so the traffic will share the eastbound lanes at that location. At times the I-20 on ramp from Highway 385 will be closed.
SCR Civil Construction of Richmond, Texas, won the contract to repair both overpasses with a low bid of a little less than $3.5 million. The project is scheduled to be completed by April 2018.
