PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials announced this week that work to improve and widen FM 898 in Fannin County began on Sept. 26.

The contractor, DL Lennon Inc., Commerce, Texas, was granted 533 working days to complete this project valued at more than $12.2 million. Weather permitting, this roadway improvement project should be completed in three years, officials said.

This work on FM 898 will reach from the Fannin-Grayson County line eastward to the intersection of FM 898 and State Highway 121 north of Bonham, Texas.

The contractor will improved bridge rail and metal-beam guard fence, widen the roadway shoulders, install safety end treatments on existing bridges and culverts, and place a new pavement surface on this roadway, officials said.

The work will require temporary lane closures at times, but access to adjacent properties will be maintained while this project is underway. Traffic will sometimes shift to one side of the existing roadway while contractor crews perform work on the other side of the roadway, officials said.

Motorists who travel regularly along this portion of FM 898 should remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
