WICHITA FALLS – Demolition crews will get to work Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, to tear down the Rifle Range Road Bridge over US 287 North of Wichita Falls. US 287 will have to be closed for the destruction but the detour will be effortlessly easy.
All north- and southbound vehicles will exit at Rifle Range Road, drive across Rifle Range and re-enter the freeway using the entrance ramps. Only minor delays are expected during high traffic times.
Demolition work should wrap up by Friday, Nov. 17. However, the freeway will reopen as soon as possible.
The replacement of Rifle Range Rd. Bridge is a $2.4 million contract that will take 14 months to build. The new structure will be higher and wider. The old bridge is only 14’ 2” tall at its shortest point and has been hit by trucks numerous times. The new bridge will be more 17’ 10” tall and will also be widened to accommodate two 12-foot driving lanes with two 8-foot shoulders.
This construction will be a lot like the Wellington & Huntington Road Bridge replacement projects that TxDOT did earlier this year and last.
