  • 1950s/1960s - I-35E is constructed

  • Sept. 30, 2009 - Express Lane Demonstration Program Approval by Federal Highway
  • Jan. 28, 2011 - Finding of No Significant Impact by FHWA (Middle section)

Environmental Review Status

  • 2008 - Environmental Assessment public meetings
  • Oct. 28, 2009 - FHWA schematic approval for all three sections
  • Nov. 18, 2010 - Middle section public hearing
  • Oct. 20, 2011 - North section public hearing
  • Sept. 27, 2011 - South section public hearing
  • Late-2011 - Anticipated reviews and FHWA decisions for north and south sections

Project Progress/Support

  • An I-35E stakeholder coalition, with leadership from Denton County and the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition, continues to meet and express support for the project and the possible use of public-private partnerships for its expansion.
  • Most cities along the corridor, including Denton, Hickory Creek and Lake Dallas, have passed resolutions supporting the proposed design and the use of public-private partnerships to help deliver the project.
  • Major educational institutions along the corridor, including UNT and Texas Woman's University, have expressed support for the I-35E expansion and the use of innovative methods to deliver the project.
  • TxDOT has established working groups with municipal stakeholders along the corridor to develop an aesthetics master plan. Visioning sessions are scheduled for mid-February, and a final corridor master plan could be complete by mid-2011.
