The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Paris District is evaluating potential short- and long-term roadway and operational improvements for Loop 286 in Paris, Texas. The proposed project encompasses the loop around Paris, a length of 15.5 miles, shown in red on the project location map below. Segments of the loop are also designated as US 82 and US 271.
Project Purpose & Need
Within this project, TxDOT is addressing needed geometric and safety improvements for Loop 286. The purpose of the Loop 286 project is to improve safety, increase regional mobility, improve traffic operations, and address roadway deficiencies.
The project is currently in the schematic and environmental phase of design and analysis, which is one of the early stages in the project development lifecycle. The purpose of this stage of design is to determine project needs including evaluating travel demand, mobility need, safety improvements, environmental impacts, and impacts on existing and planned developments. Once a preferred alternative is determined, the project team will prepare a preliminary roadway design and perform an environmental assessment of the proposed project. This process includes two open house-style public meetings and a public hearing that will allow the public to learn more about the project, view alternatives, and provide input on the project.
TxDOT is seeking input on preliminary roadway and intersection alternatives that have been developed as a part of the initial stage of the project at a public meeting to be held on April 25.
