TxDOT is currently reconstructing US 175 from two lanes to a four-lane divided roadway from FM 804 east of Athens to Frankston. The estimated construction cost is $105 million. Expected completion is summer 2019. The project is being built in phases:

Phase I

  • Work began April 2015
  • Limits: 0.1 miles southeast of FM 804 near Baxter, southeast to 1.1 miles east of Loop 60E at LaRue.
  • Contractors: A.L. Helmcamp Construction and Big Creek Construction are the contractors for the $39.2 million project.

Phase II

  • Work began October 2015
  • Limits: 1.1 miles east of Loop 60E at LaRue, southeast to .85 miles east of FM 315 in Poynor.
  • Contractors: Sundt Construction is the contractor for the $37.8 million effort.

Phase III

  • Project will likely begin in late Spring 2016
  • Limits: .85 miles east of FM 315 in Poynor, southeast to .5 miles northwest of SH 155 at Frankston.
  • Contractor: L. Helmcamp Construction is the contractor for the $27.6 million project.

Once complete, US 175 will be a four-lane divided highway with a depressed grass median from the Kaufman County line to Frankston. The completion of US 175 continues to be a high priority for this region as this is a primary route for thousands of students who travel to Stephen F. Austin State University every day, as well as a popular alternate route for I-20 to the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

An open house was held on March 3, 2016, to provide the public with additional information.
